I have several off brand batteries for my Olympus dslr's. About 1/3 the price of genuine Oly's. Freshly charged they work comparably (assume same or close in capacity) and will take a similar amount of exposures, but none that I have will keep a charge as long as the Oly batteries. I shoot all raw files on a E620, about 1000 exposures in 6 days, 1 Oly battery and 2 off brand. I use the off brands first and use the Oly after draining the others. Batteries are BLS-1, aprox. 1100mA. I'll always keep at least 1 original manufacturers battery for each camera, but can put up with the shorter charge life for spares. On a positive note none of the off brand batteries have failed on me!

I was using the OEM battery for my Sony DSLR from the time I purchased the camera until two months ago. I made the purchase of a off-brand battery because the OEM one was way to expensive. So far it's worked out pretty well. As Butthead said I use the off-brand first then the Sony one. Depending on usage I get about 80% - 90% of the life of a Sony from brand-x. Since I want to carry three batteries with me I'll probably order another one soon. I think as long as you buy from a reputable outfit (B & H, Adorama, Abe's, etc.) you'll be alright. They will stand behind their products...
Watch out for that rock!!!........ Oooo.... That's going to leave a mark...
