I take one long trip to BWCA/Quetico/Wabakimi/Woodland Caribou a year
usually two day trips on small rivers where I skate/run/bike back to my car
wish I had more time to do more of both
also many day trips on lakes, these are much easier to pull off in the land of 10,000 lakes

Looks like I have taken up solo paddling as a retirement hobby. Has to be better than golf!
This month alone (in the South) I have paddled all but five days. One longish real solo and three solo daytrips and the others in a solo group with other solo paddlers.
Got three more planned at least. (God willing). All will be more than a week.

I'm too far away from the BW to do multiple trips, so I plan one a year and try to make it for 7-10 days to make the 1,250-mile trip worth it. I go solo when my brother (nor anyone else) can't join me, which is most of the time due to the amount of vacation time needed for a trip that long. Having someone to travel up with cuts the expense significantly though, so I'm usually trying to talk someone here ionto it. I do frequent solo day hikes, overnight, and weekend trips around home.

+1. That's the same thing I try to do each year. First one will be this May with a second planned for late August. If I'm a really good boy Mrs. Sierra1 may let me out for a trip in October too. Solo is the best way to go.....
Watch out for that rock!!!........ Oooo.... That's going to leave a mark...

Yep. There sure is something more meaningful for me when I do a solo trip. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy group trips as well, but I look forward to solo trips just a little bit more.

I've gone solo in 2001, 2007, and 2011. I hope to go again in Sept. I've gone from liking them so so, to loving it and hope to do one every year unless I go with a group. Trips are around 9 days on the water.
With groups I'll try to get an uneven number to go so that way I can use my solo boat. :)

I plan on it and finishing off the summer with a forty day solo in the BW."
That's my dream. What is your plan for food? Will you have a outfitter drop some somewhere? Have fun this summer!

I had to cancel my trip last fall after I was fully packed and planned. Felt like I was in mourning.
This year I changed up my career with the hope that I can solo more than just once a year in late fall. Should get to try a trip in water that doesn't cause pain upon immersion.

I usually do one in the winter - we live on a section of the Cloquet River that is open year round. In the early spring I like to do the upper Cloquet or the St Louis River to run the rapids. The bwca or Quetico for fishing opener, then it is ussually tandem trips for nice weather. In autumn I'm usually up the most deserted river I can find for deer season.

I have done 3 solos to the BWCA, solos camped many times on hunting trips... given the choice of going with others or solo, I will choose going with others... that said I would choose to be in my solo canoe every time! Enjoy the freedom to go at my own pace & I don't work as hard in my solo as in a tandem to go the same speed.

I love Solo trips, I've found I pretty much need them for my mental health. I take at least two a year (usually three), with a minimum of five nights each. I'm heading out in T-minus 10 hours for my first one this year! No sleep for me tonight!

I do at least two or three solo's each year, including at least one in the BWCA/Quetico.
Group trips are lots of fun, but the older I get, the more often I find myself going solo.

I have done three so far...not counting a couple group solos. #4 will be in sept in the Quetico.
I enjoy the solitude, the quiet, and I can go where, and when I want to.

I like to paddle solo. I like to paddle with a pal. I'm not addicted to paddling. I simply like it. If I have an addiction, it's to water. I'm happiest on water. I backpacked nearly a thousand miles when I was a kid. Too muddy and sweaty. I pedaled thousands of miles when I was a kid. Too much asphalt and too many cars. When I was 17, I took my first kayak trip over a thousand miles. Ahhh, perfect. All that water! No cars. No asphalt. No mud. Just all that rolling, roiling water at my fingertips.
I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.

Been fortunate to have a teaching position with a 10-month contract for the past 8 years. Have completed one or two solos each year, averaging about 12 days each, first in the BWCA and last couple years in Quetico. Why? Because the access, peace, solitude, and fishing is about as good as it gets...
