Well, my daughter called the other day to say she had been accepted into graduate studies in physical therapy at St. Scholastica in Duluth. She had been on the wait list for the four schools that offer the program in Minnesota so this was a wonderful answer to prayer. The catch is that she had to be there to start on June 25. Not sure where we're going to get the money or where to live but we're going to do everything we can to make it happen. Besides all that, I'm wondering what the evangelical church landscape looks like up there. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for your advice!

We go to Hermantown Community Church. I highly recommend it.

My kids go to the Vinyard Church. Bit too chaotic for my taste, but kids seem to like it. One thing though, when I've gone there, and when it all gets to be a bit too much, I go out to the lobby, get a coffee from the coffee bar, and watch the service on TV while seated in an overstuffed leacher couch. Very strange.

I was talking to a couple of my co-workers about church. They are from old-line Luthernan churches and they complained about the structure of the service (litergy), the hyms (which I miss), and how old fashioned it was, and how so many members of the congregation were old. Mentioned Vinyard and they are now attending. One co-worker told his daughter, and she and her fiance are now attending.

We have friends who go to Anchor Point and they have good things to say about it.

My son works in the IT department at St. Scholastica and my daughter is a Junior there.

My daughter has some friends (he is a jr pastor at our church) that may have a rental possibility for your daughter - not too far from St. Scholastica. The rent was quite reasonable, though I can't remember exactly what it was. Warning, it is a chaotic madhouse!

The house itself is quite large, and put together with little rhyme or reason (there appear to be two living rooms). Each of the renters (I think they had about four or five, at the most) had their own - quite large - rooms, and the run of the rest of the house. There didn't seem to be any rules. My son and daughter lived with them for a couple of years and loved it, but it would have driven me insane. If interested, email me, and I'll check it out.

Thanks for thinking of us, bears! We visited yesterday and enjoyed the campus. I think I visited that vineyard church several years ago.

We looked at a 2 bedroom apartment at $800 a month (includes everything but cable) and she thinks she might be able to find a roommate. We had a referral on the apartment within walking distance of CSS (down the hill on Kenwood) and trust our referral but do not really know what to compare it to. How's that price compared to other rental rates in the area?

Probably pretty good. I think about the least you could expect is $700, and likely there would be some issues with the place.

Of course, all I know on this subject is what I hear from my kids. Our last rental was $60 per month - with a garage - and free laundry in the basement (it was married-student housing).

The Christian "flop-house" I referred to - I think they were paying $300 a month, but I'm not positive. My daughter just told me someone she knows was moving in there. They all really enjoyed living there, but it would drive me nuts.

It is 12:35 AM here, or I would call her and find out more about it.

You know, Sara is looking for a place and a roommate, but I'm not quite sure what her situation is. She may be studying in Ireland this fall. I'll ask her about that too.
