This morning after breakfast I was greeted by the sight of a red headed woodpecker feeding from one of suit feeders. I haven't seen this bird in a few years so it was a real treat. I have various other tree clinging birds year round but this Guy is somewhat of a stranger to my back yard feeders.

hello airmorse, where are you seeing these? it looks like you are in Indiana. red headed woodpeckers aren't common here in minnesota, as a matter of fact i have only seen them in iowa. specifically at Effigy Mounds national monument. this is a gorgeous and fascinating park in a state that is often overlooked.

Been to Effigy Mounds on the way up to NE Iowa trout fishing.
Believe it or not my back yard is where I have been seeing these birds. I live in a old neighborhood with lots of trees and big yards, (for city livin' that is) almost a acre.
I haven't see this bird in several years and was very happy to see it today.

A common visitor to my backyard as a child, we seldom see these magnificent birds in my area. We typically have to search in only the best local areas to get a glimpse of them.
