Wow, it sounds like Kel made a series of good choices. I am glad you got out ok.

WOW! So glad that you weren't alone. I know (after breaking my arm last summer on a Quetico trip) that I will NEVER travel without a well supplied first aid kit that will always include prescription pain medication.

Here's to your continued healing.

Paramedics are the most under appreciated People in the Healthcare system. I have worked with several and am always impressed with their skillset.

I greatly appreciate your effort to report what happened and what steps were taken to save your life. This is an important message for the rest of us so we know how to react should something similar happen to us in a remote part of the world. I'm thrilled to hear you are doing well and plan to return to the BW in the not too distant future. Kudos to Kel for his response, as well as the EMS team, and to you for staying calm while waiting for help to arrive.

If you get one, I hope lots of people sign your cast!

Bassnut.....Sorry to hear of your mishap but am happy Kel knew exactly what to do and you made it out safely. Your story is a good reminder that this (or worse) could happen to anybody and to always be prepared.

If I had a medal to pin on Kel, I surely would.

Good story with an even better ending. Thanks for the trip report. Some food for thought going into our trip in 5 days.

Man lucky you had a friend who didn't panic.

I think about stuff like this on my trips sometimes. What if my husband fell and broke his leg, on the slope like you did. How the heck would I get him up the slope? He's got almost 100 pounds on me.

Quick healing vibes to you, bassnut!

Thank you all for the well wishes. Medical update: Surgery was on the 21th: a rod for the Fibula, and plates and screws for the Tibia. All went well, have begun ROM and slight weight bearing. Already cutting back on pain stuff(ironically!). Only problem so far has been that the wifey has overdosed me twice...on Colace! Best guess about July 1 for getting back on the water.
