I just found out that I was successful in the lottery for a zone 22 bear license. A Boundary Waters bear hunt will be one of the most challenging hunts I have every done. After my bear hunt I will be able to attempt a wolf hunt. I usually covet the hunting opportunities that are available out west but this is going to be a great fall of hunting for me in Minnesota.

Congratulations and good luck. Should be a heck of a good and challenging hunt. Do you live close to the bdub? Might be hard to run a bait station if you don't.

You cannot bait in the BW for good reasons but that is what will make the hunt so challenging.

Didn't realize that. Definately a challenging hunt then. Good luck

Find out from the Forest Service & the outfitters where the problem bears are located. Thats where I would start, its still going to be tough to do, probably do some burn bait setups.

Often wondered about using a honey burn near a decoy food pack?

Good Luck!

The wolf will be very hard, in my opinion... probably have to happen with complete luck of right place, right time & used a distress call... only advantage is they have never been hunted before.

Agree with the honey burn.

Ive bear hunted the BWCA 6 years now, and one word of advice, the problem bears are the HARDEST to hunt. They are smart. We tried for several years thinking they would be easy. They know when someone is after them and they disappear!

You can bait in the BWCA -- it is perfectly legal. The problem is you cannot leave it unattended. Now, the question is, does that mean that you have to clean it up before you leave the bwca or does it mean that you need to clean it up before leaving the bait site each day?

I would look at the doing one of the various burn pot methods, but I have often thought that all you would need to do is cook some bacon for breakfast on ensign and you would probably have a bear right in camp with you!
