The last 2 years we had powdered eggs in the bwca. They were 'adventure eggs' but they've since gone out of business. Does anyone know of another source for powdered eggs? I thought about bringing fresh eggs in but the weight and space may be a little too much. 8 people for 8 days and we have eggs and bacon for breakfast 3 times. That's about 4 doz eggs.
Thanks for any help you can offer..

We freeze egg beaters and use that as our ice, so to speak. But, only for breakfast after our first night out. We can't stand the powered eggs. We are thinking of trying this out for the breakfast after our second night out this year.
I picked up this idea from this board a few years back.

4 dozen seems like a lot but that is for 8, and my son and I carried 2 doz for a 12 day trip. Small or medium because they're tougher, cardboard cartons, a double layer of bubble wrap around each, and a rubber band. Should not be that much on top in a food pack for a party of 8.
That said, I believe there is another brand of powdered eggs that had similar reviews to Adventure Eggs - which I liked too. And you can still get them - but in 50 pound boxes.

Very good prices from the Eggstore. I like the small packages too. The Honeyville eggs come in a 80 egg can and once opened it is difficult to seal well enough to keep very long. I can only get one trip in a year so I end up with some extra powdered eggs to use up at home. Thanks for the tip, I'll be checking them out next year.

What is the difference between "ova easy whole egg crystals" and "powdered whole eggs"?? They both say that they are great for omlets, scrambled eggs, etc....
Which do you prefer? The Egg crystals seem to have a great packaging scheme.
Any thoughts??

I like to take my eggstore eggs and put some bacon bits, salt & pepper, and a little Nido milk all in a bag here at home.
One important thing is if you vacuum seal it, just make sure to leave some air, just seal the bag. If you do the entire vacuum thing you have to do a lot of work to get the lumps all out.

Just tried the ova easy whole egg powder, and they are AMAZING! They put all other powdered eggs to shame!!! Made scrambled eggs... 5 people tried them... nobody knew they were not eggs straight out of the shell. I had to show them the bag.

Same hear... Like Nido is to powdered milk, Ova Easy is to Pwd eggs. I'm ordering more as we speak.

What's the difference between H'ville's Ova Easy and the regular powdered eggs? I don't really need 12 dozen eggs (looks like the twin pack is the smallest packaging option for Ova Easy).
Anyone remember the "Omeletteville" sketch from SNL? "Bring it on down to Honeyville!"

We brought a 4.5oz packet of the Ova Easy Whole egg powder/crystals and everyone loved them. Moist and delicious, highly recommended. I bought the pouch off amazon and chose Nutriom (the manufacturer) as the vendor. I could have gotten it cheaper if I picked a different seller but I didn't want to risk receiving a packet that could be close to its expiration date. They are spendy but worth it in my opinion if you want easy, tasty eggs on a trip without the hassle of bringing real eggs in the shell.
(Great with no refrigeration bacon or hash browns)

This past June we tried Ova Easy after using the Adventure Eggs the year beore. Ova Easy were about 1/2 the price, tasted much better, had a longer shelf life, and did not have a goofy smell like the Adventure Eggs while cooking. We will definitely order them again. I ordered a case of the dozen size (4.5 oz.)egg packages. We also tried Nido for the first time. Again, another big hit.

if you really want to eat eggs, or cook with eggs, then OvaEasy is worth the premium. I use them for baking and also omelets and they are great. Freeze dried eggs are no better than gnawing on drywall.
I was skeptical about Ova Easy after being repulsed by freeze dried eggs, especially given the cost of Ova Easy. I bought one little pouch and fed them to my daughter as the guinea pig. She thought I made her an omelet with real eggs. After she survived, I tried them and was really impressed. You get what you pay for with these.

Thank you all for your input. We all loved the Ova Easy powdered eggs. After 2 trips in the BWCA totaling 11 nights, Five people on the July trip, eight people on the August trip, and a total of 6 breakfasts with scrambled eggs and bacon. Everyone agreed that they were better than the Adventure Eggs from last year, and the Adventure Eggs were good, but the Ova Easy powdered eggs were better. As far as value goes they are a little expensive but well worth the money in my opinion. I ordered the box of 12, 4.5 oz packages. Each package contains one dozen eggs. I haven't tried omelettes yet but I'm sure they would taste great like the scrambled eggs did. I will order these for next years trips also. Thanks again for the suggestions.
