No time to prepare...freaking out! We put in on June 25 and I have a family to feed. I'm working full time, my house is a mess, and the garden is growing like crazy...

OK I am not really freaking out. But the pressure is on. :)

Now on to my real question...

I have a big can of Mountain House freeze dried chicken. I want to use this in recipes instead of the 7-ounce bags of chicken pieces. Does anyone know what a roughly equivalent amount would be?????

Well, Nola, I'm not sure what you mean (doesn't the can have any type of serving sizes listed?)

However, I do have a pkg. of a 2 person serving of Richmoor Freeze-dried chicken that weighs one ounce. After adding 1/2 cup boiling water to it, I am supposed to end up with 3 ounces of chicken.

I am trying the chicken pouches for the first time this year.
I have had this package of Richmoor for awhile, haven't been able to find it recently.

That is exactly the info I'm looking for. The can of chicken (it's a BIG can) is geared toward making for big groups, not tiny 3-ounce servings. :)

Oh, good. Glad the info helped : )

And not that anyone cares, but I'm much less stressed than earlier. I have the menu planned and ordered the freeze dried ingredients from packitgourmet (already shipped, even....they are fast!) and I have my regular grocery list all made up and ready for shopping. Hoping to find some turkey meat sticks at the regular store....

Yes, I care! I have my own list for today, not feeling stressed YET
When are you leaving, Nola? We are packing up to leave early Friday Morning. Two more days.

Not leaving for another week+, but having not gotten ready AT ALL before yesterday and only having one weekend between now and then...

Yikes. :)

Have a great trip!!

We have a crew going out in a few weeks and have been looking for the chicken pouches. Has anyone seen them in grocery stores lately? Or have a good source for them? There are only 4 of us so we don't need a lot... maybe a few pouches. Thanks!

Target has them in the Chicago area. Local big chain grocery store no longer does. And willing to bet Zups does. Maybe Walmart.

Meijer has the chicken packets in the Detroit area. They are the 7 oz. Valley Fresh brand. For some reason, they are with the tuna fish - maybe because they have sea salt in them.

quote Sylbill: "Meijer has the chicken packets in the Detroit area. They are the 7 oz. Valley Fresh brand. For some reason, they are with the tuna fish - maybe because they have sea salt in them. "

More likely it's because they are in the canned meat section.
