Nice report, Ozarkpaddler. I'll be heading in #50, Cross Bay this fall with the same plan to head to Long Island and Cherokee. I'll bet your little buddy Mason is hooked ;).

really enjoyed your report. the water level is crazy this summer! your photos of the lakes are wonderful.. like the one with the langford, reflection on the calm lake. glad you got to spend some time with trailrat as he's become a hermit.

sure hope this isn't your last trip, but happy it was a rewarding trip for you and your "newbie" friends.

Thanks! my friends rented the Langford from Ted & Barbara at Poplar Creek. They got it from the friendly folks at "Stone Harbor." Nice boat, but the kneeling thwart is too close to the yoke and too low for my feet. I had to take my boots off and wore my Sealskin socks when I soloed it (LOL)! I think I would like the 16'6 model a bit better.

We miss 'ol Duggae and Roc-C down here, but I can understand moving to the Trail and turning "Hermit" (LOL)! Going to have to meet you next time up there. This will NOT be my last time to the Gunflint; day trips will probably be in the cards from me for now on. I just have to coordinate so many medicines now, that it is a big hassle on a wilderness trip.

My friend Mason, aka "Portage King," is something! I've never seen anyone, teenager or adult, with the stamina and "Heart" he has! He's one heckuva young man!

Great report with very nice pictures. I hope you make it back as I think Portage King would miss your pancakes. Great to hear a young person enjoying a canoe trip like that. Must be because he had a good leader. Thanks for the report.

Hey Ozark:

Thanks for a great trip report. Nothing better than reading about my favorite place in the world on a cold January day.

Question for you? How did you ever find Angelo's Pizza in Wausau? Are you native to Central Wisconsin?

The computer I am writing this from is about three blocks away from Angelo's on 6th Street.

Just wondering. It is amazing how small our world becomes when we start looking around.

Snipe Lake is a really cool lake and one of my favorites in the BWCA.

Nice report. We stayed at the same campsite on Ham last year for the same reason and had the same disappointment about not making it very far that first day, but the trip turned out to be a great one. Awesome pictures. We were entertained by this little fellow on Ham. He seemed to think it's his site.

Small world, indeed! We lived in Schofield for over two years when I worked at Wausau Hospital. That would have been 1990-1992, that's how I found out about Angelo's. We used to go to the Rib Mountain Angelo's most of the time, but they closed I believe? Also used to love the Log Cabin when it really WAS a log cabin! We loved Wausau and the wonderful folks there. Had it not been for our large families we would have moved there permanently.
