Whoop, I have a question on winter camping in the middle of summer!

Just wondering who here uses the mitten cords from childhood that connects both mittens together so you can take off your mitten and let it dangle from your sleeve?

I've always worried about losing a mitten so maybe I'm a bit paranoid. However, rather than having to set down a mitten I would rather not worry about getting snow in it or losing it in the snow.

If you use them what brand do you use and where could I get some?

Crochet yourself a chain to the length you want. All it requires is a few cents of yarn and crochet hook. Or ask a crocheting friend to do this. You can do a chain that is long enough in under ten minutes.

I have some that are made from yarn that was woven together -- got as a tip from a client many years ago. They have been attached to my choppers ever since.

I use and love them, I just use a leather strap I bought at the fabric store. It allows me to quickly and easily remove big bulky gauntlet style mittens to do delicate tasks and then quickly put them back on in cold weather.

I also remove them when getting warm while pulling a toboggan and flop them over my back.

How much excess material do you have to allow you to remove your mittens but yet keep them from hitting the ground?

I always used an over the neck lanyard for them when I was dogsledding in Maine...but then they were $70 mittens too.

I just knit the mittens and put on the cord. My family all has and uses them. You just need a knitting Grandma!
