Subtitled: A Scientist, a Shaman, and Their Remarkable Journey Through the Siberian Wilderness
This book is a good read. Interesting and thought-provoking with a lot more to it than the the title and subtitle suggest. Yes, there's science, magic, and mystery, but there's a lot of adventure, anthropology, philosophy, and history with unique perspectives. Love and loss.
Most of the story takes place on the tundra in Kamchatka, a Siberian peninsula, with the Koryak people - probably the last band of nomadic reindeer herders.
Jon Turk is the author of adventure travel books and earth-science textbooks. He "has kayaked around Cape Horn, traversed the Northwest Passage, and paddled across the Pacific Rim".
