June 2010, along the Isabella River. I have no idea what this one is.
On edit, this is Columbine. Thanks TuscaroraBorealis.

Some people see nature as being made "Just for them", and view others as an invasive species..... We are always hearing about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about Welfare running out of money? What’s interesting is the first group worked for their money .. the second group did not.” WTF???

i have always been intrigued by this small grouping of plants that i have seen and revisited many times since the mid 1990's.
back along the shore of one of the lakes in the Little Bear Track Lake area it sits by the water cut off from the forest floor by the cliff above in it's own small niche of rock.i have seen it with the water much lower and once flooded over but it came back in great shape.
the yellow flowers that set off the group are Bluebeads, clintonia borealis, they are a native plant found all over the North.
a clump of Sedge,Moss and Lichen round off this "wild terrarium.

it's just a level trail thru the woods.

Thanks, Spartan2. I will try to be patient. I wondered if maybe we were supposed to vote. I especially like PrettyPaddle's orange mushrooms with the clinging soil/debris. Love how transluscent effect of the light.

PuffinGin,
No, we don't vote. And people keep posting photos after the deadline is over, too, so it sometimes gets confusing. The rules don't seem to be enforced really strictly, although I don't know that a late entry has ever been picked. But eventually they will post the name of the winner, and I hope they will announce an August contest. All of the moderators are very busy (and I would imagine, more so during paddling season) and it takes time to figure this all out. In the long run, though, we do have the monthly contests and it is such fun to see all of the beautiful photos. My favorite thread on the board. :-)
PS: At the end of the year we DO vote on the best photo from the winners of the monthly contest, with a few runners-up included. The winner of the yearly contests are on the contest page. If you haven't checked those out, take a look!

Actually, it looks closer to Indian BLANKET, but I think what you have here is Hawkweed. In any case, nice shot!
