Great report and AWESOME PICTURES. Wow! You have to submit some of those pictures to the monthly contests!

I am glad to hear you listened to your wife. She is very smart.

Frankly speaking, a lake all to your self this time of the year is almost unheard of and highly desired. You had a gem and your wife was smart enough to keep it :P

Don't get me wrong, I understand the desire to conquer and go further, faster, longer. but when the body aches, and you have a nice alternative (like a solo lake in August), take it! Its a total no brainer! Going forward with aches and pains usually just means missing out and paying more for it. I am glad you had a good trip!

PS: Try some Blue Emu. My wife swears by it for aches and pains.

Glad you had a good trip. I especially liked your wood pile mine are never that big or organized. ~JOE~

The dog is a Vizsla, the Hungarian verson of the Wiem.

I was actually a little disappointed in that wood pile. Normally I have it much more organzied. The different sized pieces started getting mixed together more than usual.

Enjoyed your trip report - and loved the part about the dog following you in your canoe - priceless! As far as staying at one campsite - I have a lot of respect for knowing your limitations and not pushing on when you could further injure yourself. You did the right thing and hopefully you enjoyed the solitude on your own private lake. Great pictures - loved the shots of the dog at sunset.

Sounded like you had a nice trip. The dog following you was classic. Thanks for a great read and glad you had a good trip!

Enjoyed your trip report, thanks for writing! Great dog, too!. The pictures were terrific, brought back memories from my spring trip. Good photography is a benefit to not trying to rack up miles. I disappointed myself by not taking more and better photos. And having a whole lake to yourself is one of the great bonuses to tackling a long portage!

Nice report. You need to change the name to "Time IN the real world" ;)

Great report and thanks for sharing. Glad to hear you had a great trip even w/ the weather and bad shoulder. Great job of being flexible and adjusting your plans on the fly.

Louisiana group member here. Glad you had a good time. We made it as far as Rush and base camped there. Your dog was absolutely beautiful even thou he didn't like my 17' kevlar hat. :)

tobywan, nice of you to drop in. I was kind of wondering how your trip went. Did you get into the smallies you were hoping for?

Where did you end up camping on Rush? We checked out the site on the point along the north shore with the large pine growing out of the rock. Looked to be a nice site.

Not sure why my dog didn't like your kevlar hat. I thought it looked great on you.

Yeah we ended up staying at that campsite for the week. Really nice site. Saw a group leaving the next day then nobody until we left. Had good luck with the smallies on chartreuse flukes. It was a great week heard the wolves howling, saw a bull moose and the peace and solitude of the boundary waters.

Sounds like you had a good trip then as well. The entire trip I was thinking that whole area looked very moosey. I kept my eyes open and actively looked for one but never did see one.
