forgot to mention those water purification tablets taste horrible! I work in a hospital so we use a lot of iodine, and that's all I could think of... we resorted to boiling most of our water.

Enjoyed your report and especially your Humor!
I have done that route as well. I know that 240 rod portage you are talking about to South Temperence Lake. I was not especially fond of it. However, the view from the portage to the river was nice.
It is too bad you did not see any of those Moose you heard. On my trip to this area (quite a few years ago) I saw 7 Moose on our trip. 2 on South Temperance, 2 on Peterson Lake, and 3 on Jack Lake. 3 of them were calves.
Thanks for sharing your trip!

Entertaining report.
Really enjoyed your sarcastic perspective. The admission of the 30 mile dirt road discovery was priceless.
A little late now; but, if you plan on trying that route again? Try fishing the the pool below the rapids that wash into Peterson from Kelly lake. (or maybe you did???) There's a nice 20 foot hole there that often times is a good multi-species producer.
Thanks for taking the time to share your story & photos.

It was pizza Luce!!! Won't forget it now! Their spinach artichoke dip was to die for!!!
We fished the hole by the temperance river to jack portage. That's where those elusive Lilly pads were hiding too lol. I think our problem was actually our bait... And technique... Will have to study up on that for next trip!
I would definitely do the route again. Very beautiful area :)

Very nice report! My wife and two of my sons and I were there the week before you. We came out on the 3rd. We stayed 3 nights on S. Temperance at the southern most campsite. The site you were at is by far the worst on S. Temperance (in my opinion). The fishing was excellent for us, but I have been there before and knew the "honey holes".
P.S. I love Matt's hat!

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy!

Yes the spot was pretty bad, but the condition in which it was left I felt was what really made it that way, ie the rotting fish... Otherwise it wasn't too bad, a little non-breezy? Lol

quote boonie: "Thanks for the entertaining report. I still haven't been to that area."
It's a great spot :) The portage into peterson is pretty challenging though, lots of hiding boulders just waiting to harvest aluminum from the bottom of your canoe!

That was one of the funniest reports I have read in a long time!
I never thought I would ever have an opportunity to say this but... that was the second time today that I got to read the phrase "dumping syndrome"... first time was on a nursing test this morning.
Sounds like a great trip and I hope to read more for you!
