Mac or Windoze?
Shot in the dark:
Perhaps, moving the offending files into the appropriate folder will help?
On my iMac, any .gmap file that is in
/Users/**username**/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Maps/
will show up in the Maps drop down menu.
The maps can only be displayed one at a time, however.

There is probably some kind of installer that needs to be run.... The way BaseCamp/MapSource knows about maps under Windows is through registry entries.
Maps I have 'installed' and visible in both products are
BWCA Camps & Portages
Illinois Wildernesses
iltopo11
mitopo11
mm_plss
mntopo11
Sylvania Wilderness
witopo11
All of the above maps are represented with their own folder in C:\Program Files\ with the same name as the mapset.
Sylvania Wilderness is one I cooked up by chopping the MI Topo to just the park and surrounding area and fixing lake boundaries, etc.
I don't know how comfortable you are in the registry editor, but if you look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Garmin\MapSource\Families
you should see entries for each mapset you've successfully installed.

In addition to BaseCamp, I think you should have gotten Garmin MapInstall and Garmin MapManager. At least that's what I have on a Mac platform. If I recall, after I downloaded the Garmin BW/Q maps (which are great, by the way) to the Garmin device, I had to do something with one or the other of those programs for proper interface in BaseCamp. Sorry I can't be more specific, but maybe open those programs and see if there's anything intuitive to do?

Oh, yeah, seems to me that when using Mapinstall, there was an option to install to gps, to computer, or both. Although you say they show up in My Garmin, perhaps a re-install to your computer with Mapinstall would do it...?

I got it figured out. When I installed them, except for MN I just clicked the Next button each time I was asked and let them install to a default folder instead of the My Garmin folder. You need to install directly to the My Garmin folder. Moving or copying the files from the default will not work, I had to install directly to the right folder.
