Who would be intersted in having playdate? Canoeing families are hard to find so I think it could be a great time. Any takers? Our kids are 8,7 and 4

We'd be! We have three kids-13, 11, 7.

I have a freakish schedule for the next month as it is the last month of my nursing program but would love to be considered. I don't know if I can get the 15 yr old son to come but I could bring a 12 (almost 13) yr old son and a 10 (almost 11) yr old son.

Are we thinking to meet at a house, a park for a hike, a playground?

11/05/2012 04:09PM
Ya we are busy till January at least. And it might take a while for people to see this post :)

04/23/2013 01:09PM
any interest in a play date wing night still?

I am definitely still interested. What are you envisioning? Paddling? A hiking/picnic at a centrally located park?

I am wide open right now as I am still job hunting. Of course that may change, and I sure hope it does soon :-)

We might be interested. Kids are 9 and 11 (boy and girl). We did QJ, EP16 and 30 last year. Great time. Would love to meet other canoeing families! December would be nearly impossible to do but January starts to open up again....

No it didn't

In the summer i was thinking park/playground and paddle. Now that it is winter we have a sledding hill, ice skating pond and snow shoeing at my house unless we wanted to meet at a state park or something

January would be a possibility for me depending on the weekend. I work every other weekend. I would have 2 of my 3 boys, 11 and 13 years old, to add to the mix. The 16 year old is likely to decline a play date :-)

Sounds great. Are you all located near or in the Twin Cities (MN)? We can drive as well --- particularly if there is a state park with camper cabins to rent...but I assume that we are talking about only an afternoon of snow-fun! That works too :)

we are north by Princeton Mn. My kids are now 9, 8 and 5. Sand-dune state forest is near by but I don't think there is any camper cabins.

A sledding day sounds fun! We are in south Minneapolis. I think January works good for us. We are having our 2nd in early Feb. My wife might not be able to make but me and our daughter can.

Well I'd say that since we are located in south Minneapolis as well that we could definitely get together in January. Also would love to do something just a bit north of the cities near Princeton -- Canoearoo, let us know if anything is going on in terms of winter events in Sand Dune or up in your area....maybe we can do a second one up there...happy to do a 'winter outing/picnic' if there is a nature center at the park where we can base ourselves (and warm up :)...let's all keep in touch and if any other families want to join that would be great!

12/04/2013 07:50PM
OH I know! Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge will be having winterfest end the end of Jan or early Feb. This is a very fun event.. We can all plan on going to that. It is on a Saturday. They have slay rides, marshmallows, snowshoeing, Quincy building, birds, and so much more. I'll let you know when I learn more

12/04/2013 08:08PM
I guess winterfest has been cancelled due to lack of funds :( But they said they are planing something else. I'll let you know when I know more

12/10/2013 03:07PM
So for now I'm thinking my place either in January or Feb. I'm not sure about the ice skating; it depends on if we can get the pond plowed off by then

I'm interested. We have some things on the calendar for Jan/Feb, but might be able to squeeze it in. We have a 14 y/o boy, 12 y/o girl and a 8 y/o girl.

We live east of the cities and are fairly flexible on where to meet.

We are too! Count us in.

What does everyone want to do? We have only enough snow shoes for our family, do you all have snow shoes? Did you want to go some where or just go to our house? I'm sure everyone has sleds. Thoughts?

We have sleds but no snowshoes so sliding would be an option for us..

My wife and I have skis & snowshoes and we generally rent for our kids (because their feet are growing by leaps and bounds!)....sleds are plentiful & so are snowboards in our house :)....anything really works! Suggest maybe a sledding area with potential skiing or snowshoeing and somewhere nearby to warm up? What does everyone think?

12/28/2013 10:39AM
ok how about Saturday Feb 1st or Saturday Feb 8th?

We could happily rent snow shoes or cross country skis if that is the activity of choice for the day.

Those dates might work for us. I'll check with my wife who is on top of the kids' basketball schedules for the winter (Saturday AM games). An afternoon get-together might just work for us. I'll post here to confirm (we're on vacation out east for the holidays at the moment). Thanks for the suggestion!

01/01/2014 11:47AM
As of right now I'm thinking we can do a snow-shoeing, ice skating, sledding, or even CC skiing, marshmallow roasting pot luck (think snacks)at my house unless something else comes up

01/01/2014 09:22PM
I saw the post in the general discussion and our family would be interested as well. I'm a substitute mail carrier and work most Saturdays but we would love to make the afternoon/evening activities if it works. We have a 7, 5, and 2 year old, all of which like to be outside more than in.

01/02/2014 10:19AM
you are more than welcome :) I'm thinking 1 o'clock on one of those 2 dates listed

01/06/2014 06:34PM
any dates work for anyone?

Hey Canoearoo,
Out of those two dates I think that the 1st works best for us. My son's b-ball game is at 11:30 that Sat so we could make a later-afternoon rendezvous.

Looking forward to it whatever works out for everyone!

Our 2nd is due early Feb. Not gonna be able to make it. Sounds really fun. I do have 2 pairs of snowshoes someone is welcome to use. I live in south Minneapolis and I work in the northern suburbs a lot.

01/06/2014 08:56PM
The 1st I'll be ice fishing at Devils Lake and the 8th we have a family trip planned by Nisswa. However, now that I know we're not the only ones that like to get our kids in the outdoors I will watch this forum closely.

Hey that's exciting! Hopefully it will be much warmer by then and look forward to getting together with you folks once the sleepness wears off :)

I would offer the weekend of the 15th but that's the Valentine's day weekend :). We could look at the 23rd as a possible alternative date just to give folks another option --- although I'll stay with the that 1st w/e in Feb for now so that this planning does not become overly complicated!

My work schedule only makes the first 2 Saturdays of the month available.

We can do that weekend but probably can't make it until 2 or 2:30 (my son has his b-ball game at 11:30 and will probably last an hour, no longer). We'll head out shortly after that. Where does everyone want to meet up?

Looking forward to it!

01/13/2014 08:36AM
Well , we were thinking if we can't think of anywhere else we can use our house. We have sledding iceskating snowshoeing and marshemellow roasting. Snacky type of potluck

01/14/2014 05:39PM
After this latest snow storm I'm not sure we will get the pond back into ice skating. There is a thick crust of snow that the plow can't get off. Does everyone still want to come here or do you all want to meet else where?

We can do that too if it works best for you Canoearoo. Not a problem. We have plenty of other outdoor winter toys to play with and we are looking forward to it! We'll bring snacks also to contribute to the "potluck". Should be great fun for all!

We have some really nice snow shoeing trails on our land that goes down to the river. My kids love to snowshoe down there and have a campfire in the woods and roast marshmallows. We could even build some Quincy if we wanted to. Or if some want to go further, there is a 274-acre wildlife management area down the road that goes out to a shallow lake. There is a lot of snowing shoeing out there.

our neighbor plowed our ice rink again and while we were skating today a muskrat came out to say hi :) The rink isn't very good, it is slow now, I'll post the week before if he plows it off again :)

So the Saturday in February at 1:00 at our house. Email me for directions :)

01/25/2014 03:12PM
We snowshoed out to the river yesterday and had a campfire by the kids fort. They can't wait to show it all to you :)

Thanks so much Canoearoo! We'll check it --- I'm already thinking "gardening" and getting some plants going indoors :) Thanks again for hosting us. We had a great time. Everyone happily crawled into bed early, completely exhausted from the day outside (in beautiful country!). Thanks again.
