Wintergreen is incredible. I take students winter camping with them every year.

Wintergreen does a fine job for lodge to lodge type trips but do not focus on fishing trips. When I had my dogsledding business we focused on fishng and winter camping. You need hard working semi fast dogs. I would use Kelly Murphy. He has been doing fishing and camping trips for over 20 years and knows his stuff!

You are right about WG not offering fishing trips per se, but I disagree with your implication that they only excel in lodge-to-lodge. I will be taking a group of 8 students in late December/early January, and while we spend the first and last nights in one of their lodges, we also spend 5 nights out camping in the BW. This will be the 8th year that I've done this, and we also almost always fish. Paul will customize your trip to include pretty much anything within reason. Also, in terms of bang for your buck, no one came close to Schurke when I originally started these trips, and he literally has not increased his cost to me since the first time I booked with him 7 years ago.

Never ment to imply that WG only does lodge to lodge trips. Paul is a good friend of mine and they do a fine job at winter camping trips as well. The only thing I implied is that they do not specialise in fishing trips, so if the person was asking about a rccomendation on a dog sled/fishing trip then I would use Kelly.

Saw Bill Slaughter on Minnesota Bound once and he and Ron were catching some nice big pike on Basswood. Filed that away in the back of my brain as something I'd like to try some day, but then I saw a sled-dog poop on the run and crossed it right back off...think I'll stick to snowshoes. LOL!
