along the north shore in 1994. I bet a few of remember them doing the filming?
Just brought it up because it was on TV tonight. I always liked it because of the snow and sled dogs. A good family movie I thought.

That was a GREAT movie! Thanks for reminding me of it. I'll have to see if I can find it someplace to rent again or buy.

We watched from up on the Hwy 33 bridge in Cloquet where they filmed a scene with the train by the old bar. Was very interesting.

Quite a few of my friends were in that movie as extras. Old Central High School was the finish line and they filmed that before the end of the movie. It was a winter of very little snow and I remember trains with ore cars full of snow going up the shore on the Scenic Railroad. They completely ran out of snow before the filming was done and had to finish filming in the mountains of Montana.
At the end of the movie, the race from St Paul to Winnipeg, has mountains in the background.

Just bumped it up with the Gunflint dog races this weekend. Love to watch them run.
Loved this Movie-Iron Will

Remember seeing them working by Little Grand Marais as I went up the Gunflint area to lake trout fish and winter camp. This was early 1990's. Film released 1994.

Love those winter scenes.

I remember it well I wrote the production company a bunch of citations for non registration.

When they decide they could cross the border with out registering their vehicles in Wis.

We had some snow MN didn't.

Up the Gunflint and North Shore had plenty of snow. Maybe different scenes they needed a terrain in where we Didn't have snow and Wisconsin did. I am not sure if they finished filming in one or two years?

I have a high school classmate that worked on the clothing for the movie.
Her name is Lou Eyrich, and she is currently the head of costuming for American Horror Story, and has won Emmy's for her work on the show.
She is from New Ulm, Mn

As we were talking they told me they were chasing snow that day. We just had about 6 inches.

There was a lot of snow in Duluth Jan 1993, 30" on the ground towards the end of the month. Any trucking of snow was probably just for scene enhancement. I remember watching the filming from the Old Central building. Pic below shows snow depth in last column to right.

Last time through Cloquet I looked at the changes and thought how they’d never pull off the scene they filmed there like they did. Fun just to see the old locomotive in action.
