Not really sure, Mocha, but probably north to Ledge, although I might go to Cap then Ledge. But if I loop the other direction, I'd go south to Boulder from Ledge or Cap.
Thinking about a loop out of Kawishiwi through Beaver, Adams, Boulder, Ledge, and back to Malberg and out to Kawishiwi.

We went north out of Boulder. Trail is roughly 1/2 mile to a swampy area that some may try to put a canoe into. Veer slightly left on foot through what looks like a moose trail/bushwhack about 15 rods until you see a boulder in the middle of the stream. Right across the stream is a straight-up rise that doesnt seem much like a trail at first glance. Out of view though is a hand-made switchback.
Cross the creek here (was very cold water/possibly spring-fed) and climb that hill. Continue on till you get to a T-intersection. Go left to Cap and right to Ledge.
The entire north-south portage was somewhat overgrown with vegetation touching you on each side.
From Cap or Ledge, the T intersection going to Boulder could be tough to identify. The beginning of the trail south is on top of a granite ridge with a steep but short drop-off on the west side of the ridge.
Some maps show a portage further west along that creek. I didn't try it as I have read that many got lost/there was no portage.
Total portage length from Boulder to Cap: 335 rods / 1 mile. Difficulty: Moderate ass-kicker.

Update-
I finally made it here; came from Cap to Boulder. Lesser used portages, a little overgrown. It's a moderate climb to the top, probably around 3/8 mile. The turn to Boulder was easy to see. I would say the section from there to Boulder is definitely longer than 135 rods, probably closer to a mile. It is a steep drop to the creek - reminiscent of the Muskeg-Kiskadinna "wall". Would be an awkward climb with the canoe. At the bottom, it's best to just go ahead and wade across the creek - knee to mid-thigh deep (I have short legs :)). Trail was fairly clear, one small blowdown easy to maneuver around.
