i posted a map like this on the wabakimi forum. this is a map from the sunset country tourism asso. printed 2010. it just gives an idea of where the outposts are, in case you have issues with them.

You can pick one up each year at the All-Canada Shows, too. Don't know if the 2013 one I have is any different from yours from 2010, though. --Goose

I think I still prefer THIS MAP (referenced on another thread). It is older (2004 I believe), but it is only for WCPP and at a tighter scale. I does have more than outposts listed, but it appears to be more accurate from my inspection of the Sunset Country map(for example, there is a private outpost/lodge on Hansen and two on Donald with satellite cabins ... I've personally put an eyeball facilities on these lakes).

Sorry to sort of hijack this thread somewhat, but I was wondering what the red stars and the red triangles mean? I tried to email you from the little envelope in your profile but when I clicked on it nothing happened, was I doing something wrong? I am going yo WCCP in Aug. and am trying to decide where to go. 8-9 days, 6-9 hearty young folks [ I am the old guy] rest in late 20s, base camp, then reef on the fish, mostly catch and release. I will have lots of questions before we hit the road and I will be looking for lots of advice, suggestions, cant make it to canoecopia [have to work all weekend] but hopefully make it to midwestmountaineer and talk to some knowledgable folks. Thanks FRED

From my knowledge of the park:

Red star ... commercial lodge
Red triangle ... commercial cabin
Yellow circle ... privately owned lodge/cabin
Brown circle ... boat cache

Lodges and cabins are by-in-large serviced by float plane traffic. Commercial lodges see the most traffic, potentially multiple times per week. Commercial cabins and privately owned properties tend more toward one a week (or much less frequently than that). Boat caches are where aluminum boat may be stashed. (From my experience, some are in use, others aren't.)

I'll check ... I think I've saved a copy of this somewhere that actually has the textual part of the legend in tact. I'll re-post if these are not reasonably accurate definitions.

EDIT: A check of my copy of this map shows the yellow circles to be "Cottage site (patent land)" which is loosely the same as I previously posted. "Cottage site" does not necessarily translate to "single building (e.g., the one on Hansen has a number of buildings including a main dining hall/kitchen and several out buildings.

dentondoc's map is definitely more accurate. several of the camps we passed aren't on the map i posted. they must not be a part of the tourism association. as the old fisher maps stated, not to be used for navigation.

Does the number by the boat caches indicate the number of boats?

Great maps thanks for posting

Supposedly. However, I suspect this could very likely be a "max count" representation. I don't spend a lot of time looking for boat caches. The ones I've run into are in the immediate area of a portage. But I have paddled by some locations that show a "mark" and have detected nothing. (Your mileage may vary.)

I guess I should also add that even this map doesn't mark all of the operating cabins in the park. For example, there is this one on the east end of Ticketwood Lake more or less adjacent to the outflow from the Sabourin River. If you look at the map, the "cabin" marked on Thicketwood is further up the lake (and I can confirm that it is ALSO there). I believe the one pictured may be one used by the Boy Scouts groups. (BTW: There are also others that are not marked on the map.)

Please note that since the map was produced, several boat caches have been cancelled and removed. The park plan identifies that we will mananage the park to move it forward along a "Wilderness Continuum" meaning in the direction of more wilderness. We are attempting to do this in a fair manner and have entered into discussion with individual boat cache owner/operator. Portage-to (as oppose to remote fly-to) boat caches will continue to exist along the Gammon and Bloodvein River systems at portages used by camp guests. There will be an effort to hide or relocate these boats to minimize visual impact on other park users but we aren't quite there yet.

The map does not show private recreational cabins (only 3 left from the original 6 that existed in WCPP prior to the plan) nor does it show trappers cabin (which is the camp referred to in the post above). As private structures, we do not publish their locations.

Hope this information helps shed some light on the topic
