Anyone ever do this for an extended period of time? I would like to do it for a year but don't know that I could make that commitment and maintain some quality. It would be nice though to have a photo journal that covered every day of the year. The new year is fast approaching and each year I think about giving it a try.

As a way to get this forum going how about posting a picture a day. Rules would be only one picture a day but come back each day to post another. Doesn't have to be a recent one. The only criteria is that it highlights the great outdoors.

I love the idea. I just picked up a new camera. My first DSLR. I am just getting used to it and I am a little overwhelemed at this point. I figured though, I would have plenty of time to play with it and get used to some of the features. I am really excited to take it along this summer. Here is one from the Lake 4 to Hudson portages. I really want to learn how to make the water look like the pro's do. Where the water seems to moving in their photographs. Not sure of the technical terms that they use but I really like how they turn out.

She was big. She had 3 cubs with her but the other two stayed back in the woods. I think she was going after crayfish as she was digging in the rocks where the water met the shore. She was so occupied I got really close before she spied me.

I will post one taken with my first digital camera (Nikon Coolpix 900) that really got me back into photography about 10 years ago.

That's cool!!! If you look close at my frog's eye you can see the reflection of my camera lens, and the outline of my hat. :)

No doubt many stories to tell! What am I seeing on the boat? Are those patches or was it just the way the boat has weathered?"
They are fiberglass patches on an old wood boat. Lots of work was done to keep these things flaoting over the years.

What setting do you use to get the water to look like that? "
I use the manual setting on my camera. I bracket my shots. I set my shutter speed at 1/15 sec or there about and stop down the aperture at about f22 to start and change the fstop and shutter speed till I get the desired effect. A tripod helps or a steady surface.

my best friend sent me these roses after my second foot surgery. since i had plenty of free time i messed around with different photo programs and found a way to make one rose red. i'm sure most photographer people know how to do this but i was just learning how to use my new camera that came without a written manual (cd manual :()

The better questions is what lens. A good macro lens is on my wish list but these were taken with a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 lens. It is a great lens, very sharp and has great bokeh. Both of the picture mentioned have varying degrees of cropping. The only downside (besides $$$) is that it is heavy and hard to take on canoe trips.

Its a raptor.... owl maybe of some type but hard to tell. Here is a full zoomed in version. It looks like it is facing the other way.
I did get turned around in the fog that morning.

Hello folks,
Is this a take a photo a day topic, or a post a photo a day topic? I would like to join the club and post most days but won't be taking one every day, for sure. Also, if that;'s cool, I invite comments/critiques on my photos and would like your agreement for me to do the same on yours.
I am passionate about nature and photography and luckily they go together well. I will try to post different or unique shots but can't promise it every time. What do ya think?

Yes, please join in. There are only 2 rules. One a day and outdoor related. If you can't post every day that is ok too. It can be from anytime in the past but fresh from the camera is always good. I always welcome comments/critiques but usually only comment on others and save the critique unless specifically asked for on a particular picture.
I have to say I have really look forward to what others have posted up each day. Hopefully more will join in. Look forward to seeing your pictures.

there are quite a few members in this forum and it would be wonderful if everyone participated!
as much as i welcome critique as i work my way to amateur, so that makes me a hobby photographer? feel free to send me an email if you want with constructive comments.
most of the photos i take are based on an emotional connection to what i'm looking at.. if that makes sense. sometimes that shows up, sometimes not.
too much stress involved if this became "a photo a day" ...
i like looking at photos and a description about them so that's why i'm participating at this point.

I enjoy looking at the photos that are posted, and if I like it I will say, but as far as critiquing others photos...I won't do that. I do this for fun period.
I look forward to seeing your photos LindyLair

how long did it take you to get that shot? very nice."
It's a funny story. I had paddled in to an area early one morning in hopes of photographing woodducks, teal and widgeon. I used a beaver hut for a blind and this fellow swam around all morning beating the water with his tail. As luck would have it....the ducks wouldn't cooperate so I started taking photos of the beaver....voila.

That is a
argiope aurantia or a Black and yellow Garden Spider. They are really beautiful in their own way, I think they're cool..I see a lot of them around my place, and in the late summer when I'm down fly fishing some of the SE MN streams...They are common in fields of goldenrod plants

this spider is so icky but I couldn't help myself.. I had to make it bigger.. what is it? it looks like it has eyes on its back... I guess it's a good looking spider, but it gives me the shivers."
It's a garden spider; we had them in Georgia. They are big, and creepy, but doesn't compete with the size of the fisher spiders you see in the boundary waters.
