I am planning a 10 days expedition down the Capitachouane river from May 24th to June 2nd. This is a train-in, shuttle-out trip. It is not a guided trip but a common adventure at shared costs.

There are several rapids without portage in the upper section so a basic knowledge of white water paddling is an asset but all are welcome as long as a reasonable ratio between experienced paddlers and beginners is maintained.

This river is a fishing paradise but this is not the aim of the trip. Busy schedule (180km in 8 days) and complex regulations rule it out.

White water canoes and accessories can be rented locally from Colleges and Outdoor stores at low cost. We can also provide free accommodation for people not too fussy and secure parking lot in the Montreal area.

Oh... Water will be cold and most probably everyone will, at some point, make an unexpected contact with it. Did I forgot to tell you about bugs? Well... Expect them to be in full force.

sounds like a great trip. my reflexes are no longer quick enough to do serious whitewater. besides canoing whitewater with a group of quebecians sound rather intimidating. i stole this photo from expedition2012blog.com, i hope they don't mind.

check out the cross draw the bowman is pulling off. and look at the dog standing on top the gear. my french is rusty, would the term Sans Souci be appropriate?

my family stayed in a hotel in montreal about 8 years ago. i believe it was in one of the more interesting areas of Saint Catherine Street. it was cheap and like i said, very interesting. montreal is a must visit for voyageur history buffs.

Come on... A guy that paddled the Caniapiscau would be intimidated by something???

Yes, the picture is a fine example of sans soucis attitude.

Well, this trip has the added advantage of offering both French and water immersion ;-)

Montreal sure is a must see... This is France on a budget!

I hope you have not stayed at a "Tourist room" on St-Catherine. Just kidding ;-) "Tourist rooms" have special low rate for short "nap"...

i have double vision, that makes running whitewater twice as exciting. my bowman has dyslexia, right means left, since i am usually screaming to go the wrong way, and he does the opposite, it kind of works.
