Or zero degree skis (as in celsius).

I stopped at the ski shop in Hayward Monday, looking for post birkie bargains. It was warm and sunny. the snow wet and melting. I told the salesman to see if he had any skate skis that fit, bemoaning the warm weather and the difficulty of waxing (time to skate). The salesman told me that he no longer skates and that the wet was the best time to classic ski.

Showed me skis where the kick zone is inlaid with hard rubber (like a firm eraser). You sand the rubber (creating little hairs) coat it with deicer and then head out to ski the melting snow.

It works and works fantastic. Fast skis with great kick.
