Really wanting to make biscuits and gravy for breakfast on our trip with 4 adults and 4 kids.

Wondering if anyone has suggestions on biscuits.

Option 1. I can pre-cook at home, let cool, freeze, then vacuum seal.

Option 2. I can remove from package, freeze and vacuum seal, add to gravy mix in the B-Dub and eat like dumplings.

Option 3. I can get add-water biscuits and cook in the B-dub from scratch.

All things considered I would rather be fishing but everyone is happier with a full stomach shortly after sunrise.

Any ideas or opinions?

I'll use a mix to simplify things;

Bisquick

Saco buttermilk blend (found in baking section or in with the powdered milk at most supermarkets)

Mix together bisquick and buttermilk pdr. add enough water to form dough, knead the dough a few times and form into biscuits. Bake in reflector oven at around 375* or until browned about 15 mins.

Fry in a lightly buttered pan over low heat with lid on, 4 mins. checking biscuits after a few mins. making sure they don't burn, once browned flip them and continue cooking on other side until browned and cooked through.

It would be hard to beat frying pan bread style for gravy. I use pizza dough mix - just add water and fry in some oil or butter. Fastest I know. About a 6th of cost of Cache Lake last I checked. I have also done in Bakepacker which are mighty fine and light biscuits for gravy - just no crispy parts. I suspect the reflector oven would be very good - never tried - but slower than frying pan and probably not faster than Bakepacker.

Bisquick works good for me. I use my outback oven and they take 20 min from start to done.

We don't carry a reflector oven, we always make our biscuits like pancakes in a pan. The just add water mixes are simple and easy. We carry bisquick complete, found at Walmart. Our favorite flavor is garlic & cheese. You have a big group, so I understand you wanting to make them ahead of time...but they aren't that much fuss and the end product made fresh may be superior to a reheated version. Brownies or dessert bars I freeze & vacuum seal..they come out perfectly, but they have lots of moisture compared to a biscuit and are cut into blocks.

Cache lake foods also makes biscuits or dumplings & gravy, I have tried many of their fryin pan breads-they go on every trip with us. I haven't tried their biscuits or dumplings...but I have tried many of their foods and everything has been excellent.

I'll second the Biquick complete....we have taken them several times. put mix in small ziplock bag....add water slowly to get the right consistency...tear a small hole in the corner and squeeze out into oiled frying pan.....one less thing to clean up....you want to avoid adding too much water...go to little less than the directions at first.

I will regularly take Bisquick Complete, and Southern Mills Country Gravy Mix, to make biscuits and gravy. Just add water to make dough/gravy. I'll also add home dried ground pork sausage and dried green onions to the gravy. Bake them in an aluminum foil oven on the fire grate, or "pot in a pot oven" on the stove. Reflector oven, Dutch oven, pan frying, also work well.

Click on the link then scroll down to my biscuits and gravy recipe. It is a first morning meal, because I use canned biscuits, but it worked great. The biscuits are cooked like dumplings. A good stick to your ribs meal.

We love Cache Lake Biscuits and Gravy, I know made from scratch stuff is great but these are fantastic... we even eat them when we're not camping sometimes! :-)

+1 pan fried bread in the BW is spectacular and you can top with just about anything you want. my fav is jam with a cup of joe at sunrise waiting for my line to take off :)

Biscuits and Gravy is a must on every trip. We just use the Bisquick box of biscuit mix, a package of country gravy mix and either dehydrated sausage or spam. Just bake the biscuit mix in a frying ban on low heat with some aluminum foil over the top to create the oven effect. Always the most anticipated breakfast (after we're done fishing for the morning of course)!

I made similar Saturday. Used Bisquick buttermilk complete pouch (makes 6 biscuits) cooked in thin pucks. For meat in the gravy pouch it was Jack Links Breakfast Bacon. Twenty seconds in the fry pan looks and tastes like regular bacon. Was great! However, I ate it prior to going out fishing.
