Hey everyone! Have a 3n, 4d solo coming up at the end of this month via EP 19.

1. Has anyone been to this EP in 2013 and or know how water levels are in the area?

2. For those who have camped on Stuart, any recommendations for campsites and fishing spots and areas to focus more time on? I've looked at the map section on bwca.com but not all campsites have ratings, as well as portages (see below).

3. Yes, the first portage is a bruiser, but how are the rest of the portages along Stuart?

Any advice is much appreciated, thanks in advance!

I realize this could also go on trip planning forum but would like advice from some fellow solo'ers!

Water levels were quite high in May. Fish where the river comes into the lake and you should do fine.

To me it's the rest of the portages that are the pain. However they are not that hard and since I have forgotten what they are like I'm sure they're not that hard. Get an early start, take your time and enjoy the trip.

The western most campsite is quite nice and I recommend it. However the NW and NE sites are quite nice but there is less seclusion if someone is on those sites. Skip the northern most site as you would not stay there unless you had to.

Returned from a trip last Thursday, finished on the Stuart River Portage (Trip Report: Sundial PMA )

I soloed the Beartrap River last summer. Very similar rivers, water level now is very similar to last year at this time. Soloing on the Beartrap was not an issue at all. We didn't fish the river, but we did fish Stuar Lake. No luck, but only one of us is a real fisherman. You will enjoy the area tremendously.
