Curious as to what others put in their first aid that's above and beyond what you generally carry in your kit. Our kids are a bit older, so most of the other first aid stuff is fine for them.

Ours:

acetaminophin, chewable
ibuprofen, chewable
benadryl, chewable
aloe vera, travel size

Because my boys are older I find that I don't have much that is just for kids in my first aid kit. My kids are all old enough to swallow pills and the youngest is almost 12 so he can take the adult dosage of Tylenol and Motrin so I don't bring the pediatric version with us on trips anymore.

But I have added:
~Substantially more band aids with an emphasis on knee sized patches

~Neosporin Neo To Go (the spray seems to freak them out less than trying to rub ointment on an open wound)

~After Bite Gel (small amount decanted into travel sized bottle)

~Asthma Inhaler

~Extra Benadryl

~Sunscreen Chapstick

Good ideas. Extra band aids...yes, those are a must!

vicks
miralax

Man... what is up with that? 2 of my kids were the same way with croup when they were young. So scary, can't even imagine trying to deal with that on a canoe trip in the middle of no where.

well for us, its in the family. But when our youngest gets it, it is really bad (one nurse told us he was the worse case he had ever seen). After 3 times to the ER our regular doctor gave us a bottle of steroids for home (so we don't have to run to the ER in the middle of the night) and another for camping. She agreed that if we can can not get to an ER and we didn't have steroids, that his life would be in danger. Steroids change the situation from scary/life threating, to totally fine in less than 10 minutes. It's an amazing change. My dad said when he was growing up they didn't have steroids for croup (they started giving kids steroids for croup in the 80's) and his sister almost died a couple of times in the hospital back then.

From our trip last week, I can tell you that I should have brought some laxative, daughter was miserable, and made everyone else the same, until the "event".
