Has anyone purchased Camp Chow prepackaged, dehydrated meals from the Trail Center on the Gunflint Trail? Their name happened to pop up as a BWCA.com sponsor today so I checked them out. Looks like they have a good selection. Looking for some testimonials, more for backpacking food than canoeing, but could work for both.

Yes I have!
Broccoli Cheese soup, Cheddar and Wild Rice soup, both add water and simmer. Excellent flavor and thick consistency.

Hash Browns with Cheddar, Hash Browns with Mushrooms. Add water and let soak then fry. About 20 min to soak right took a bit more oil than anticipated , good results.

Beef Stroganoff, add water simmer, vegetarian (I added beef). Excellent!

Scalloped Taters and Ham , add water and fry. Again soaked 20 min. Very good, ham may have been freeze dried, tasted like fresh ham.

Turkey and Dressing, and Shrimp Alfredo, are in the pantry but have not tried.

Good stuff, flavorful and easy to prepare. Portions seem right, a little too much for me (but I eat very small portions anyhow). Most of the meals are meatless, but adding meat is easy. I repackaged into individual servings for my use. Mail ordered and received in 3 days, an extra item (Cheddar and Wild Rice soup) included complimentary!

Will keep buying!!

I've heard complaints about Mountain House meals tasting too salty. Did the Camp Chow meals strike you that way?

No, but I must admit I like to salt most stuff I eat, as a table condiment not while cooking. Not a good answer but that's me.

I try to sample whatever they have cooking when I pass through. the asparagus and corn is wonderful, the new cheesecake is fantabulous!, the mashed taters are awesome. they are expanding their offerings, seems each time I go in there is something new.

Wish I had seen their ad a couple weeks sooner. We're hitting the backpacking trail on Saturday so it's too late to get some ordered. Something to remember for next time.

Yes! It is delicious!!! We had a grilled cheese tomato soup and loved it. You can't go wrong. They also sell yummy pumpkin syrup (not for summer camping as it needs to be refrigerated). Jackfish, heard you met our friends, WhereRwe the other day here in Fargo. :)

Tried the wild mushroom soup last year on a cold day of river camping. It was excellent. Tons of different mushrooms in a buttery, buttermilky sauce that went over well with all in camp.

I made this at home because it looks like no canoe trip this year. :( The Mac-n-Cheese does require constant stirring so it doesn't stick. Took closer to 15 minutes but well worth the wait.
YUMMMMMY!!

It would be good to have a side dish along with this 2-person serving, otherwise 2 people might want the 4 person serving.

So, in conclusion: the Mac-n-Cheese is excellent and highly recommended.

I ate there several times this past June. one of the owners offered me to choose a bag of Camp Chow veggie, on the house. I grabbed the asparagus. It was very, very good. Not salty. Not tough.
their pumpkin syrup over old fashioned bread pudding is fantastic!
veggies aren't much in my bwca meal planning so I was glad to learn about their selections. So many!
