This carved pike is the same size as the northern I caught on Ensign in 2008 doing a solo. The most exciting couple hours of my life. Following the great battle I had for ~10 minutes, I went back to camp and cooked some fish for dinner. I was surprised by a black bear during my brief eating time and was bluffed charged and huffed at. I posted other pictures on my trip report back then. My wife then found a chain saw artist back home and had this carving done. It is all 1 peice of wood, and we now have it on our front porch.

Beautiful spot & great photo!

Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

All of the rocky and metallic material we stand on, the iron in our blood, the calcium in our teeth, the carbon in our genes were produced billions of years ago in the interior of a red giant star. We are made of star-stuff. Carl Sagan

Since this contest started on August 21, is it still open for entries?

Good question. I don't have an answer but just looked up Calendars on Wikepedia. Lots of calendar types: solar, lunar, lunisolar, Gregorian, Islamic, Hindu, arithematic, atronomical, complete and incomplete just a few examples. Maybe this contest is based on the can't-keep-up-with-stuff one. Maybe same names for the months or intervals but lengths or beginning-end times are different.

Congratulations to JWartman on the great shot of Curtain Falls. I've never seen a photo of Curtain from that angle. Excellent!
