I appreciate all trip reports. I just can't seem to make myself do them. Writing is just a chore and the more trips I take, the less interested I am in taking photographs. That said, thanks for posting, love the photos.
I never noticed a back rest on your canoe. For me, this eases my back considerably.

Great report and some great photos. I enjoyed reading your report.

Favorite quote: "Later I made a small fire for no good reason, and had my evening drink."

Of course!!

Thanks Goose. Camped near the P dam on our last night this year so I was very interested in your report. We had come from Sturgeon via the B chain in high water so we didn't have the gas to explore Pickeral. Your report filled in some blanks for a beautiful area. I thought then that I could easily spend a week there which is exactly what you did.
I would also like to revisit the B chain which I assume you have already done.
Incomparable country and I got to enjoy it again with you.
Thanks again.

Thwarted: Loved the B-chain when we "rushed" through it several years back when we only had six days to spend. Would much like to visit there again more leisurely. As others have pointed out it's nice to have extra time. (I won't do a trip that's less than eight days anymore if I can help it.) Being "retired" sure helps. --Goose

Much as enjoyed the report, my back is starting to hurt from reading it! Since I have been sleeping on Exped super duper air mattress and sitting in my little REI camp chair canoe trips have caused me no back discomfort. Until I read your report anyway, now I'm feeling that old twinge that would turn into agony 3 days out. Enjoyed the report even though it brings back painful memories.

Ah, I love reading the solo reports. I've never been that way and it looks real nice. Love the beach shots. And you mention talking to some guys after seeing no one for 4 days, yes, I tend to get chatty on the portages too when I meet people when solo.

The hornet.... I work outside and never fail to get stung at least once every year. Hornets and bees are what I fear most when going solo in the BW. If I disturb a nest it would be big trouble for me with not a whole lot of area to run. No sir, I'll take a bear in camp over disturbing a hornet nest!

thanks for posting, it was enjoyable to vicariously go back to Quetico from my desk while looking out the window at a snowstorm.

Thanks for the trip report. I enjoyed reading it. I have some memories of getting around that point on Art Lake. We could not do it and were stuck on the portage for about 4 hours until the wind died down. Every bad wind since has been called the Art Lake Wind.

great trip! sorry to hear you had back issues, that can suck when you're by yourself. also the hot weather saps the energy level. really enjoyed the photos, especially the one with the rod and fish on! in one of the photos, day 2, i think, it's a photo of a fire and up on the top of the rocks above the fire it looks like a pine martin looking down. mabye it's just a stick or something but it looks like a small animal.

love the pickerel river out of french lake and happy to hear you saw 2 moose in there. i've camped at the high site with the long sand beach and nice western exposure, a nice site for the end of the trip.

thanks for all the photos. it is good to "see" places i'll never actually see in person.

Goose, just wanted to let you know that I just found this trip report and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Your photos and writing were very good and I appreciated the fact that you identified your campsite locations and described the portages so well.

For several years, I've had a goal of doing my first-ever solo trip and it keeps getting pushed off for one reason or another. (This year, the closed US/Canada border due to Covid killed my plans.)

I'll get up there for a solo one of these years. Thanks to your report, I have another area to consider.

Thanks, Jackfish (and others) for the kind words. If you're bored due to COVID-19 and use Facebook, check out my page called "Quetico Trips with OldGreyGoose."
