Here's an 11 minute video I made from last September's trip with my dog. She's a willing subject so it might be a little dog-centric. Hope you enjoy.

Great video and an awesome soundtrack as well! Love the Vulgar Boatmen and Big Star tracks that you selected.

"Drive Somewhere" is such a cool song and don't know why others haven't covered it or even heard it played in a movie. I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to use this song as backing. I'm glad you like it. The VB put out a remastered Best Of in 2004 called Wide Awake. Great stuff.

That Luna of yours is an awesome frisbie catcher. Ha!
She sure looks like she has a lot of Australian Shepherd in her. Are you quite sure she's a full Border Collie? Just curious.

Although I replied on the Quetico Forum regarding this post, it bears repeating; awesome video Tom!

You've inspired me to do a similar type presentation for myself. Looking through old trip photos is great, but putting them in a presentation set to music is far more entertaining.

As we've talked about in past posts, non-tripping family and friends don't often pay much attention to our tales of wilderness travel. I can't help but think if they watched a video like this it might help them understand better. Not to mention, they'd be entertained, regardless of their interest in canoe-tripping.

Nicely done Tom!

Thanks for putting that together and sharing it with us. Looks like you had a great trip with some good old furry company.

Mort! It's very strange but I actually was thinking of you yesterday. I hadn't seen you around here in a while and just wondered what happened.

Luna is 100% Border Collie. Bearfoot Border Collies is where we got her. She was actually being kept by the breeder to be bred herself but they decided to give her up after a year. They have a male "merle" they use to breed and they had to keep Luna in a crate or seperated from this dog because you cannot mate two merles. Luna also did not like the horses they had.
If you scroll down on that page you will see they have lots of merle borders. She's a very good breeder.

We recently had an Aussie and Luna is built differently and she barely makes a sound unlike our overprotective very vocal Aussie.

Nice to see you around Mort.

Thanks Hans. It was fun to make. I use a very old Windows Movie Maker program because I'm familiar with it. Putting in and editing the video was cool to do. Plus - you don't get any of my geeky narration! :)

I look forward to seeing yours.

Enjoyed the video report, Tom. I plan to watch it again when I have more time. Will you be doing a more detailed written narrative when you have time?

I'm sure I will but not till the end of the year. It's my busy work season till then.

I really enjoyed that. Good way to document a trip for years to come. They get better with age.

I'm sure your lab enjoyed him/herself a little more than my collie. My girl is just not a swimmer. She got bored around camp while I did chores but luckily we had room to throw the frisbee at 5 of the 7 camps. Thanks for the kind words.

Hey solo friends...

If anyone is bored with no canoeing now I did a re-do on this video. My OCD got the best of me and I worked to fix some things about the original that bugged me like pacing and titles. I also put in some new video footage and edited out some pics.

There is a gaffe where there is about 2 minutes of black screen before it finally ends. Not a big deal but know that it's over after the waterfall with sound video.

I make these "documents" mainly for myself as my memory is bad and years from now it will be fun to pop in the DVD's of the trips I've taken and also to have as something to hand down the generations. Who knows, maybe 20 years from now one of my future Grandkids will watch it and get inspired. Or...they might just say "Grandpa sure is nuts!". :)
