I have got a bug to build another canoe. I like building and it seems (for now) building is a great way to escape even if it is not into the wilderness. I do not want to build strip planks again and would like to try lapstrake.

I have always admired the look of lapstrake and that is where I am headed. I know a source of some redwood "scrap" that ranges up to 16' (1/2" thick 6" wide) with some being clear. But maybe marine plywood would be easier to handle.

There are some remarkable lightweight small canoe designs that look very sweet. I have my eye on 2...... the Wee Lassie and the Stickleback. The Stickleback was designed by Iain Oughtred and like the Wee Lassie it can be decked.

LOA: 10' 8"
Beam - 27"
Depth amidships - 10 1/4"
Weight - 20 lbs ???????
Construction: Glued lapstrake plywood

These small canoes look real tipsy. Anyone with opinions? Anyone got one that you would let me test paddle?
