Have you gone winter camping in the BWCA before? With sleds and a wall tent?
Looks to be about 5 miles to Paulson, which in theory is possible to get there in a day. Problem is if you take too much time getting there, and then setting up everything, it won't leave you too much time to gather firewood before the sun goes down. And I have found that the portages are the hard part of trekking through the snow. They can be a real time suck.
My suggestion is to go for it, try to get to Paulson. Leave before an hour before dawn and try to get as far as you can. If time is slipping away, then find a spot on Sea Gull and do a day trip into Paulson.

Depending on when you go,it does get some use in the winter and trail may be broken and packed, and maybe not.
