I am heading in solo for three weeks. There are a number of route possibilities I want to look into. It is all a matter of whether or not the locals that hunt and fish the area have a portage in these spots. I have noticed that there is a large area bordering the southern boundary of Opasquia with no possible canoe routes.

Unless Martin's plans have changed, my group will be headed in 3 weeks in front of him. At present, the plan is to concentrate on the established northern route and check out some addition portage options in that area, including the possibility of a route connecting Joint Lake to Mossberry Lake. If this connector back to East Lake can be added, an addition large loop can be achieved in the northwestern part of the park.

there are several excellent rivers between Opasquia PP and WCPP. my daughters roommate paddled the berens river from cat lake to lake winipeg in 2010. this is a fairly popular river but has long stretches of whitewater. he didn't mention fly in camps. the poplar river is also popular but any info i have on it is very dated. i paddled the severn river years ago, before it was a park, but i can't imagine that it has changed much. there is a lifetime of canoing to be done in this area and ontario to the east.
the bloodvein river that flows out of WCPP is a tremendous river, it has many rapids but most are very easily portaged. there is no development and the forests are magnificent. air transport can be arranged from matheson island and a ferry crosses lake winnipeg from the village of bloodvein to matheson island. my favorite canoe trip.

Thanks guys,
John...I may have to pick your brain when I get some maps in front of me. I have not run into much information on this area except for the rivers you mentioned.
Lake travel in this area looks pretty straight forward from looking at google earth, but like martin said it will depend on weather their are portages or not.
It could turn into the ultimate bush-whack.

quote jcavenagh: "Well...I'm just lucky if I can get 10 days in a row of vacation time.
3 weeks is almost inconceivable to me."

btw: I printed off a sets of trip maps covering our route so I can deliver them to group members as we do some trip planning at 'copia (side 1: lower right is start/stop point at Central (Big Hook) Lake, side 2: upper left is the far end of our planned travel at Joint Lake). The individual sheets are 13" X 19" with minimal overlap.
