I guess I am in the market for a new GPS. I went to turn on my GPS and it will not power on. Just shows the GARMIN logo and shuts back off. Tried to hard reset it and that did not work either.

Any ideas on a new one for around $200. Thank you!

New Garmin units are more capable, comparison Garmin units Personal experience setting up 62st and ETrex 20.
62st is much better in handling several maps and overlays at the same time on the unit, ETrex will only take 1 map on the microchip. If you want to use more you need to change out the chip.
You could send your corrupted unit to Garmin for service, they are good to work with and may send a fresh rebuild free.
My personal preference is a Delorme PN60 better than the 62st with a much more robust mapping program.
If you have to work with $200 you will not beat the ETrex 20.

Butthead. Do you have any experience with the Garmin Oregon 450? If so, would you choose the Oregon or the Etrex 20? Thank you for your help.

ETrex 20, differences in screen size offer small to min improvement, not a fan of touch screen. ETrex has newer op system, tracks Russian GLONASS and US GPS sats, 2x internal memory, 50% better battery life.

On the internet I find two units available, a red one with the 9.0 version of maps for $299 and a black unit with the 10.0 version of maps for $249. Any opinion on which is better? What are the differences?

I ended up getting the Garmin GPSMAP® 62. It was on sale at Cabela's for $169. It has 1.7G of space, but no card slot (I may miss that). However, I think it will meet all my needs. I only use it for BWCA, Hiking and some geocaching.

How old was your fried GPSr? You may be able to send it in to Garmin to repair....

If you're asking about the Delorme PN60, Topo10 is the newest edition of the mapping program. GPS units are the same.

Sure, but you can usually still get a refurbished unit in trade from Garmin, complete with a warrantee, for around $110.
