Howdy all - I am new to this forum, but came here specifically for BWCA bear hunt info. I am one of four in our group (actually two groups of two) that got drawn for 22 this year. We all have hunted successfully in 31 with our traditional muzzleloaders. All of us have some experience in the BWCA, but some more than others. None of us have bear hunted in area before, and I am looking for whatever tips I can get.

We just returned from our annual trip to Knife Lake. Saw 2 bears, one was tearing a campsite apart as we paddled by and the other I saw as I was on a large ridge taking pictures in a burnt area.

welcome to the group. what I have learned in 8 years of bwca bear hunting is: don't bother with nuisance bears. They are smart and suspicious of unusual human behavior. unless you build a fake campsite to hunt! what i have found to really work is set up a few trail cameras in areas your interested in. look for hazelnut, and oak tree areas. do alot of honey burns with a variety of different scents. when you get a bear to hit a bait area really load it up while you can. get in very early, and get out late. they are tricky when you cant bait early.
