Anyone ever canoe the Wisconsin River west of Eagle River? On the link below, there is a 'Canoe Campsite' noted just above Dam Lake and just below Sand Lake (on the chain). I am looking for info about these campsites. Thank - John

Hey John,
This is actually slightly downriver of the site on the map. I didn't realize until I was already set up that I'd missed the actual campsite. As I remember the site was more open and pretty nice.
This is north of Eagle river right where Buckaton Creek enters the Wisconsin. Nice spot.
This is downstream from the Buckaton site off of River Road. This one has road access and sometimes can be used by groups.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info, especially the map link. Is the site in my attachements the site from your first pic, and is it in the correct location on the map? I just wanted to make sure we're talking about the same location. Did you come from upstream or from the south (Dam Lake)? I will likely come in from the south, since I'm familiar with that area.
What time of year was your trip, and did you see many people on your trip? I will be going solo, via kayak. I assume there are no camping fees.

John,
I came downstream from Lac Vieux Desert. I was attempting to paddle the entire Wisconsin River and this attempt was in June. I still have a day or two left to finish it this summer. I've done sections as I've had time. Most often I've been solo in my kayak, but a couple times I found someone to paddle with me and we used a canoe. The first picture is the area you're talking about. I don't think your map is right. From my memory (this was 2008) I was camped on the point and the designated site was further upriver.
If you have a lot of time a copy of my trip report from Lac Vieux Desert to Wausau is here.
I believe this is a photo of the campsite you're interested in: link
