We are going into the Q on June 1st...can't wait...and I am going to switch my focus this year in the photography area. In the past, I have taken my dslr to photograph our adventures. However, this year I am taking my Lumix (takes excellent pics for a point and shoot) for fish pics and candid shots. I am also taking my new digital video recorder, which I plan on taking a video journal with. I have never done a video journal. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Practice talking into the camera before you go. It is not as easy as it sounds. :-) I did a couple on my trip last year and wish I had done more. It is fun to go back and relive the moment. Have a good background that captures the location. Get clutter out of the picture. Have an idea on what you want to say.

Here is one from last years WCPP trip.

take a light weight tripod so you can get into the shots, also great for fast motion sunsets.
pan very very slowly otherwise the view will just fly by.
i did a few Youtubes and learned a lot from the mistakes!

Well, I took some videos on our trip and loved being able to see and hear all the action, but got so sick watching the clips on my computer! I really need to work on camera movement. I almost threw up from all the movement on the screen! I also need to get a different video camera. The one I have has a very telephoto lens even on the widest view. Couldn't get very close to anything. I will definitely do it differently next year. Live and learn!

pixie..same here with the view.my first video camera was one with a flip out view screen and i had a lot of hassles with the view i ended up with.some of me talking into the camera were all nose.going solo it was hard to set up a shot like that!
movement is the other thing i was warned about by a friend who shoots videos on trips.he told me to go much slower when making pan shots than you think your doing.
here is a link to a Youtube of a slow pan at Coleman island but check out how the horizon line is tipping off to one side!
practice at home before going to the BW is a good idea.
slow pan
this video is sort of long but the first 30 seconds will give you the idea.
the other disaster was walk and talk videos!i tried to walk around a camp site to show it off and the shot was bouncing around so much that it was worthless.at the time it felt like i was holding the camera steady, which is why steady cam gizmos are expensive and bulky.
