Sure.. August can be busy in the SRCA though till the end of the month.
I started canoeing there many years ago before it was a wilderness area. Its ideal for short 3-4 day trips.

Bring a lightweight boat. The portages while mostly well maintained are numerous.. Its no accident that most paddlers take small light solos weighing about 24 lbs each.
Not sure what other info you would want but ask of course. I have been going to that area almost every year since 1963 when I lived there.
also lots of info here under Paddling in the Adirondacks Canoe campsites in the SRCA are non reservable, no quotas and free. Of course that means first come first served so its best to arrive midweek or Sunday.
