I'm curious to know what camera and lens you use for great shots like this.
I've always loved nature shots and have gotten into bird watching much more this spring and want to upgrade my camera/lens set up. Right now I can go out to 250mm focal length and was looking for a better/larger lens. I've found you pay for what you want so am contemplating next move.

this is what i use.
to be honest, i know very little about what my camera is capable of doing. sometimes i'll go out and take pictures using the same setting trying to remember the setting... i don't have enough time to concentrate on it.
this photo of the flicker i took very early in the morning, i took probably 50 photos, it kept moving, the wind was blowing, i wasn't using a tripod and trying to be as still as possible. the skeeters were terrible. i finally raised the flash and as soon as i took one photo with the flash the bird went back in the hole. haven't seen it since and i've been watching for babies.

There was and air expo was just a couple miles away this weekend so we had some of the coolest planes ever made flying over my house all weekend. Went there on Saturday with my grandson. There was a Corsair there and after a flight, WWII and Korean war vet Darrell Smith stopped by to chat with the pilot and swap a few stories.

quote MHS67: " bbrown, those depth of field shots are interesting. Especially when you have a railing, like in your photo, or a fence line so it kind of fades to out of focus."
Yeah I like them too but it's so hard to find a good spot with decent scenery around them unless you live on the ocean.I keep looking for spots like that, sooner or later I'll come upon a jewel.

mooseplums, correct me if I'm wrong, your photo is plant Lupine? My photo is bush lupine from out here. "
Not sure what the difference is but the leaves look the same as the one in your photo

in the area of gunflint lake this lupine is considered an invasive species. it might be pretty but it's stinky and chokes out all natural growth.

Nice area!!"
were you here recently?
"
Mocha, I took this picture in 8 of 2009. I've been through Grand Marias almost every year since 1997. This year I won't make it though. Next year I'll be there again.

Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

this is a closeup of the wood of an old stump in a pasture near a trout stream in SE MN. I was amazed at the colors and textures on this...nature is quite an artist...no adjustments were made to this photo "
The colors almost look like a painting, very nice.
