I scratched the $40 double screen enclosure off my trip list. I feel like it's overkill at this point. Its not heavy but is a bit bulky and takes some work to rig up.
I have treated all my gear and clothing and my partners gear and clothing with permethrin, have proper head nets, 100% deet, a thermacell and use citronella soap. We wont spend much time in camp other than for dinner and a bit of hangin round the fire before bed.
Will I regret not bringing one of these?

Ill be doing fall lake to murdo via basswood and crooked lakes in 2 weeks. When we get back Ill happily report here on the bug conditions. With all the rain I am expecting the worst.

I have never taken a screen tent but we don't base camp either. One more thing to haul. We may stay 1 or 2 days at a site but generally we are moving. I did a 10 day trip from June 16-25 this year at EP16 and was worried about bugs based on what I was reading on this forum. Overall I would rate the mosquitoes as about a 4 or 5 with some portages being a 9. I did use permethrin but had mixed results. I saw mosquitoes landing on my treated t-shirt after a couple days. We did have 100% deet and that stuff worked great. A lot of times in camp there was enough breeze to where we didn't use deet. Trips to the thunder box usually required deet. Ticks were almost non existent. I did have some mosquito coils for camp but only used them once as there was usually too much breeze. Had head nets too and never used them. Perhaps I have a higher tolerance for bugs but I don't think so. Accept that there will be bugs and rain and go as best prepared as you can (which it sounds like you are) and have a good time.

I've never used permetherin, but I probably will this year. Even though we're not going until the end of August. It just doesn't seem like the raining will stop this summer. That means more skeeters. Two years ago I did the exact route you're talking about drglock. We went in mid-August and saw very few mosquitoes. But that was a dry summer. I never have taken a screen enclosure. I usually over-pack the way it is.
