I took my grandson up to the Watersmeet area for a few days this week and couldn't believe that he and I were the only campers at the Imp Lake campground. I've been there in July in years past and have had trouble finding a spot.

What's going on. Too much rain, too many bugs? I've got worse skeeters on my property in N. Illinois then we had up there.

I know there are construction issues at Sylvania, but I sure didn't expect to be the only visitors in the campground.

Anyone else experienced a drop in visitors to the UP?

I was at Sylvania July 4, and it wasn't dead, but there weren't as many people as expected. We saw about 5 people at the Clark Lake beach and a few people at the portages and at a distance on the lakes, but it was otherwise quiet. The outfitter was packed and took us about an hour to get a fishing license and some lures, so some people were heading in.

I went up there last week and am going back this week. I have been there over a hundred times in the last thirty years and I have never seen less people there in the summer. We got there in the afternoon, settled in, and decided to fish Helen for a couple of hours at dusk. I figured that I would have trouble finding a parking spot on Thousand Island Lake Road since it was the best route into Clark since the road to Clark is closed. There were no cars there. I suppose that some of the campers were reluctant to leave there car there for a few days so they might have arranged to have Bob or Eli at Sylvania Outfitters keep their car for them, but no cars at all? The road to Crooked past the Visitor's Center was open contrary to info on the park service website. We fished Crooked, Mountain, and some lakes around the perimeter. I will visit Clark this week.

We were told by the ranger to not park on the road but to park at the Snapjack Lake parking lot.
