My daughter and I are heading out tomorrow for a kayaking trip on the Kickapoo River in Wisconsin. A Kayaking trip is a first for both of us. She is only 9 but determined to paddle on her own. The part of the river we are traveling (Ontario to Wildcat Mountain) is supposed to be very tame. We are camping at the State Park. When I told my daughter that she said "That's not camping!"...I was so proud :)

If you go again camp along the river in Kickapoo Valley Reserve at their canoe campsites.

Had a WONDERFUL time. The water was a "little" low but not too bad. I fell out of the kayak twice...my 9 year old daughter = not once! Our only complaint was too much traffic on the river but that was to be expected on a nice Saturady in August.

We also got a great education in astronomy from the Chicago based club that was in the state park.

I think next time we will START at the state park and go down to bridge 10 or 12. We heard this has more water (couple of streams add flow) and less trafficked by people toting floating coolers.

Just check with the outfitters or someone at the reserve because last time I was there earlier this summer, parts of the river below Rockton were reportedly impassable because of downed trees.
