I was looking for a yoke for my solo canoe. After extensive research I decided on the Universal Solo Yoke from Hidden River Yoke Shop. I purchased mine from Piragis. This yoke is fully adjustable as to widthof your boat and is comfortable. It is very well made. Anybody looking for a good yoke should check these out. It performed flawlessly on my last trip.

I agree - it's a great yoke. Raises the canoe up for better visibility and very comfy. If you're a gram weenie you can find a lighter yoke. I sprayed the clamps with plastidip and it holds securely without marring the gunwales.

Instead of plasti dip I just cut a chunk of old bike tire tube, protects the gunwales and keeps the clamps in the right position to make the put on process easier. Did not care for the cupped pads so went with extra thick clamp on type, still clears my noggin!

I have one of these yokes too and am not sure how it would double as a foot rest. You could put it further forward while paddling but it will be too high up. My foot rests are much further down in the hull. If you put extensions on it then your feet will be pushing on a lever and torquing the whole thing and the gunwales. So, it seems problematic to me.
It could also be inconvenient. On my solos, the foot rest is permanently mounted and stays in place for portages. So, I am just putting the yoke on for portages and then taking it off. If it was also the foot rest than at a portage I need to take it off from the foot rest position, put it on the portage position and then reverse the process at the other end. So it sort of doubles the hassle of dealing with a removable yoke. On the good side, if it is clamped to the boat while paddling it won't get lost in a capsize.

Yes Hanz, pretty boat. I took the plastic spacers out of mine to get the canoe lower. I put the wooden crossbar on the belt sander and thinned it down to save weight. It was unnecessarily thick for a carbon solo. I also made a cedar crossbar for my other one. I replaced the original pads, which I wore out with thicker foam. I wouldn't think having it double as a foot brace would be too practical.
