I will be heading in next week. Wondering what you all do to carry in frozen meats without taking a cooler and ice. My plan is to have each meals meat wrapped in double Styrofoam plates, top and bottom, prior to the butcher clear wrapping it. Then freeze solid for 3 days at 6 degree freezer temps. Day of entry, I will wrap each in a layer or two of cardboard, duct taped tight. I figure I can get three days doing this based on some previous experiments.

Wondering what you guys do without using ice or a cooler.

Keep it buried in the middle of your pack and surrounded by clothes to keep it insulated more. You could always use a small soft side cooler that would pack down small after use and be fairly lt. wt. Also keep it in a cooler and use ice packs on the way up there so it's not thawing out before you even take off in the canoe.

Good idea keeping it on ice during the 10 hour drive, didn't consider that.

I have used dry ice for the car ride in a good Styrofoam cooler.

I have used a small cooler about like this:

cooler

I have frozen things at home - pack in this and this in a normal cooler (with cheese and non-frozen items and bottled water and ice - all for ride up) and have where I bunk before entering outfitter put entire soft side cooler in their freezer.

Now, I've only done this twice or so but seemed to work fine. That little soft cooler folds pretty flat in bottom of CCS deluxe food pack, kind of keeps folding flat as items removed. 10 ounces.

Another idea if you have some scrap pieces of these materials to wrap it in either closed cell foam or in some of the Reflectix material.

Also make sure you place your pack in the shade as much as possible.
You could also do evaporative cooling with your pack by placing a wet towel over the pack while it's in the canoe. Keep the towel wet thru out the day.

I've got one of these that folds up really small after use. I've got several different styles and sizes like the one you have. Kondos Insulated food bag

The REI lunch pack is perfect fit for the CCS pack. Sweet.
