Thanks for the trip report and pictures! I'm not surprised you enjoyed the trip, especially with a week to take your time. I really liked that area.
That was the entry for my first solo. I thought Slim was a nice lake, but it didn't work out for me to stay there. I did stay at Steep Lake and the same site on Finger. I really liked the view from the elevated site there. I saw the northern lights there and heard wolves howling over the ridge to the east. The next night I stayed at the first eastern site on Gebeonequet and a pack ran through my campsite in the middle of the night.
Thanks for taking me back and I'm glad you finally to do a longer trip. It really makes a difference to me to have 8 days vs. 4 days.

Wonderful trip report and very beautiful pictures. The picture with the pine trees peeled back from the rock was amazing. It seems like this was a wonderful trip for the two of you. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing! My girlfriend and I went in for 6 nights last fall to Oyster, Finger, LLC. I loved the Oyster to Finger area. We also stayed at the same site on Finger. I was very disappointed not to get the south island site but the elevated site grew on me. Great views.

Thanks for the great report! My buddy and I were in that area the same time, in fact we were the ones camped on the big island on Finger the night you guys camped on the small one. We couldnt find the other site on the island either. Nor could we find the one on Steep that you looked for.

Really nice report and pictures. Took me down memory lane as it is almost the same trip my husband and I did August of 2013 - only you had much nicer weather. We went to the Knife Lake area this year during the same time as your trip and the weather was absolutely perfect!

Nice trip report that I had to revisit to be there in spirit. Thanks for the map updates and you have some really nice photos too. Makes me want to visit there.

This report seems to be covering a near perfect trip! I love the pictures and knowing I'm not the only one that takes pics of the campsite as we're leaving. You've inspired me to get to some lakes I haven't been to yet. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
I have been on LIS in the spring and I remember it as pretty wide open. The pics of all the plant growth lead me to ask is it overgrown from one shoreline to the other this time of year?

Thank you for sharing. The report and pictures were awesome. This is an area that I have read many reports on and it is on my list of places to get to. I especially love the idea of the solitude due to the remoteness of the area. Just beautiful!!!

great report and wonderful photos!
i was at the Slim lake camp over 20 years ago and it looks about the same, yup a hard walk up but worth it.
the shot of the Bear Track tent pad makes me wish i had got out and looked the camp over.i have been past that camp many times and just looked from the canoe, next time i'll get out and scout around.
thanks!

Thanks for all of the comments everyone! It was great to share it with you through the report.
I could (and probably will) spend the next 30 years tripping up there and never have as beautiful weather as that.

I just love the different advantages you get with different sites and the tradeoffs. I felt like we kept going "up/down/up/down" on the campsite choice for that trip!
I love being on an elevated rock one night and then nestled in a pine stand the next :)

Just read your trip report.
You did the exact trip I did in June of 2014, except I did it counter clockwise. You also stayed at two of the exact sites I stated at. I was on the same site as you on Oyster and Lynx Lakes, and I agree the site on Lynx lake was quite beautiful.
I was able to get the site on the Southern side of the Island on Finger Lake and that was beautiful with all the trees and rocks. I had a lay over day on Finger and did not see anyone the whole time, 1.5 days.
I set out of Finger, and shortly after I did it began to rain and got very windy, wished I had layed over another day but I was committed and paddled on.
When I got to Beartrack I almost swamped, the wind was so strong that I had to tie a rope on my canoe and toe it along from shore. I let out my 85 pound dog and she followed me. After a 1/4 mile or so I was able to paddle but my dog still had to follow from shore because the waves were still too high. I did the trip in 5 nites/6 days. I solo trip and was running a little low on food so I chose to end it 1 day sooner.
When I got back to Duluth I read about boy scouts that had to be rescued from their trip by Ely, the same day I almost swamped on Beartrack. It was not safe to be paddling that day, and Beartrack is a small lake. 40 plus mile an hour wind gusts.
Thanks for posting about your trip.

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

I stayed on the south side of the island on Finger Lake last June and I couldn't find the potty. I looked all over the area and spent a lay over day there.
Am I blind? Were you able to locate the potty?

Very nice trip report! Your traveled through a great part of the BWCA that gets overlooked by so many visitors!
Just a quick note for you. The "weedy" stuff that you travel through on the LIS, is wild rice. Early in the year it is just vegetation laying on the water surface, as we get into late July and August it sends the seed stalks up that the grains of rice will ripen on .
I hope you guys get to do another week long trip next year!
