We did a day trip loop on Memorial Day weekend.

My daughter and I are headed there for our first ever Sylvania trip on Monday. We are kinda heavy for a two person trip but with only one portage and a pre-reserved base camp I think the extra weight is OK.
I always wondered why somebody didn't do something about that. Then I realized I am somebody. Lily Tomlin

Good for you, Rob. Sylvania is a fun BWCA-lite experience. The series of lakes and portages in the northeast part of the wilderness makes for an excellent day trip. Looking forward to hearing about it after you return.

Pictures are on another device that I need to download. We stayed at the Osprey 1 campsite. Site was decent but the trail into it was muddy. The one portage we did was relatively easy by BWCA standards. Fishing was GREAT for my daughter because the water is crystal clear on Loon Lake. She got to see how the fish responded to her movements. There are a lot of nice sized bass. Lots of extra fishing regs though...barbless, no live bait, no scented bait. Worst part of the trip...mosquitoes = bad even by BWCA standards. A screen tent was a great addition. We also brought real chairs. Both would be too heavy for a loop trip but made a huge difference on a 1 portage base camp trip. Head nets are a must. We also took advantage of the beach on Loon. My daughter is 10 and she has been to the BWCA once.
