What am I doing wrong?

I have used my Garmin 550T plenty recently and it worked well... in Canada. Now, after putting my US topo chip back in, I get a message "Cannot unlock maps" and no other explanation. I was trying to use it to locate a corner of my property and it would place the coordinates in a place an eighth of a mile to the east. Putting the same coordinates in my phone shows the location where it should be. Also, cannot find where to change the type of coordinates in the unit.

Unlocked vs locked maps, maybe a chip problem? Oh wait that was DD's suggestion 2 months ago. Got rid of my Garmin handheld, can't help with that.
