Looking at the Delorme PN60 and the Garmin 62ST. Been looking for a while and think it will be one of the two. Do the maps that come with each cover Canada? Looking to Woodland Caribou in near future so would like to get that on the unit.
Sounds like most people get additional subscriptions for more in depth maps. What are good sites to subscribe to?
I am new to the handheld gps units so are either units easier for a beginner?
Will be buying soon due to sales, just need to decide which one.
Thanks,
JJ

Owned both and did a lot of comparing last year. Both are highly functional with similar capabilities. Both are fast and accurate, detailed colored displays (many complain about screen size, but you are looking at ruggedized handheld units, had no trouble reading either), fully paperless geo-caching, 3 axis compass, expandable chip memory, mapping (as sold, and user customized), GPSR's. Only substantial changes made to the 64st is in wireless connectivity.

I kept my Delorme PN40se and PN60 and sold the 62st, because I have more time and mapping resources with the Delorme line of products. I'd be/am/was happy to own and use either.
Strictly on a new user basis, I'll recommend the Garmin/BaseCamp combination. If you do not mind working/tweaking map programs and want a slightly more capable custom mapping set go Delorme/Topo North America.
Canadian topo coverage (both have base map coverage)? Garmin BaseCamp and Ibycus Canadian Topo shareware.GPS File Depot, Garmin Maps
Delorme's Digital Map Pack is a year subscription, to download, Canadian 50K, NOAA Charts, Sat and Aerial photo sets, USGS Quads and more.

PS; I still use Garmin BaseCamp, in addition to several other mapping programs. bh

Cabelas is having a sale after Thanksgiving and the price of the 62st will be comparable to the Delorme. Being a newbie I think I will go with the Garmin.
I hope to play with it a lot this winter to learn how to use it.
Thanks!

Can't go wrong either way. I left out price for a reason, value received is best judged by the user. Even with the price difference I'd recommend doth the same.

Incredible value on the 62st right now... low prices while they remain available due to the 64st already out. Nothing in the 64st is tempting me to upgrade, however.

Well I got the garmin on Black Friday and now it's time to learn to use it. I looked at some of the sites Butthead posted and I have a lot to learn. Thanks.

Good learning experience is to go geocaching. Lot of places, I do Kettle Moraine and Bong Rec Area often, and good way to get out in the winter. Have fun with it!

I'd agree with that
go with Garmin if you want what everybody else has, if you are an adventurous go it alone person (although there are a few of us to help), DeLorme might be the way to go

as the sign on a motorcycle shop on Lake street once said "don't follow a leader, be one"
(slogan of Honda for many years was "follow the leader..."
