The Incredible Extinction of the Passenger Pigeon. Found it while sorting out some books to put on some new shelves. The last one died in a zoo in 1914, the last wild one killed in 1900. Sad testimony.
Allan Eckert has been on my bucket list for years....I read the "Frontiersman" probably 30 years ago and have been meaning to go back and read all of his other books.....
Coincidentally, I'm reading the 2nd book in that trilogy now called Wilderness Empire....as good as the Frontiersman...The neat thing about these first two books is that the setting is local...mentions so many of the streams and towns here in Ohio, Ky, Ind. Many of the streams we've paddled.
..there is nothing- absolute nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats - Wind in the Willows
