This is an HD video I made last year of the half-mile Silver Falls Portage. It's 13 minutes long, but if watching it doesn't make you want to get back up there as soon as possible, I don't know what would. I can hardly wait for July.

Nice job with the portage video. I'm really looking forward to another fun Quetico adventure less than three months from now.

Thanks Terry, I have been a "Jewelerguy" watcher for years. I didn't connect the two names until tonight.

Great Video as always!

Thanks, glad you liked it. My cousin brought a GoPro camera last year and we had a lot of fun with it. I guess to most people that would be a boring video to watch, but I love that portage. I'm still working on the trip video report. GoPro footage is so high resolution that it takes forever to load and use. I'm sure it would be easier if my computer had a faster processor.

Nice video... and hearing the White-throated sparrow at 1:15 and at other times throughout the video put a smile on my face, too. :)

Enjoyed the video. When I started the vid, I had a mental picture of your trip going in, so I was just enjoying the scenery pass by. It wasn't until you neared the falls that I realized you were headed out (going up stream). In any case, it certainly looks more enjoyable when its dry (rather that after a couple days of rain).

Thanks! Nice job.

Trip plans are still under development and will be modified depending on weather conditions at the time. We'll start out of PP and probably head up Agnes initially assuming the ice is gone and it's not blowing a gale out of the north.

Their song puts a smile on my face also. Those sparrows overwinter here in Arkansas and every once in a while I hear them which, of course, makes me remember all of my Quetico trips and look forward to the next one.

Loved the video. I still remember the rock to climb over at 10:30, but my memory has it bigger. Guess this was because had both a canoe and the full food pack on first day inbound. I do love the call of those sparrows.

Good times. Good memories.

Many thousands of travelers have passed over that portage in the past 1000 years.

The "Rock" seemed bigger to me also.

The video encourages me to get to the gym so I can make that portage next year.

the video sure doesn't make that rock face seem as formidable as it really is when you're carrying a canoe or 60 pounds on your back. Add rain to the mix and it can be tricky for sure.

Every year I gauge how much I'm in or out of shape based on how well I do on Silver Falls portage. LOL. I'm also working out at the gym to help with my leg strength. It wasn't much of a problem until I hit 50. Now five years later I realize that it's the gym from now on for sure.

This picture of "The Rock" is more what I remembered.

I have a lot of great memories on that portage. A guy I took one year loaded his bag too heavy. He was little and not in the best of shape. About halfway down the portage, there is a fallen tree that lays parallel to the trail (That tree has been there for years). He decided he needed to rest, so he sat on the tree, leaned back to far and the backpack carried him over backwards. He was flailing around on his back like a turtle with legs sticking up in the air and we had to laugh for a while before helping him up. We don't let him forget it to this day.

I'm glad. Sometimes I need to watch my trip vids to make it through Winter.

by the way, has anyone ever taken the portage when the water was extremely high? I was there one year when Janice at the ranger's station was warning everyone to be careful crossing the outflow. We met two groups who had rolled in the current. We came within inches of rolling but made it through. Here's a video I made of the water crashing over Silver Falls. It was beautiful and incredibly loud.
